Barry Brennan

Barry has over 30 years of progressive marketing, commercial, and general management experience within multinational companies in the packaged goods and media sectors. Cross-sector commercial experience gained with brand leaders in sporting-goods, jeans-wear, and media, working within a diverse range of organisational cultures in Ireland, the UK, Europe, South Africa, India, New Zealand, and the United States. He now works with progressive companies on their growth strategies across different sectors and organisations.

Experience

In his most recent role as Managing Director of Johnston Press (Ireland), Barry successfully managed the integration of 12 independent business units into a single cohesive business structure that significantly reduced the firm’s cost base and improved its competitiveness. Barry also led and oversaw various efficiency programmes during his time as MD, including the installation of modern publishing and printing systems; the centralisation of IT, financial and Administration systems; and the embedding of new business processes across the organisation.

Prior to that, Barry held the role of Group Marketing Director of Independent News & Media PLC (INM). Reporting to the Group CEO, Barry was directly responsible for INM’s domestic marketing activities while providing strategic marketing support to INM’s marketing operations globally, primarily in New Zealand and South Africa. Barry was a key member of the INM acquisition team that successfully acquired a 25% share of India’s largest domestic media company, Danik Jagran. Barry was thereafter a board member at Danik Jagran between 2004 and 2005, where he oversaw its successful consolidation into the wider INM group. Barry’s experience in the marketing arena includes working with international brands such as Wrangler and Adidas.

Barry is now applying his 30 years of broad commercial experience to a wide range of companies in different sectors. Barry has completed numerous consulting and mentoring assignments for both B2B and B2C companies and semi-state organisations.
