Michael Loftus

Michael has over 30 years of operational and strategic management experience in a variety of organisations. His experience spans from start-ups to a Fortune 500 companies. Michael’s focus now is on strategic guidance and operational effectiveness of organisations across a diverse range of sectors, with emphasis on continuous improvement with an in-depth understanding of lean culture.

Experience

Michael has spent the majority of his career working in operational and strategic-management positions from engineering to medical devices, from start -ups to Fortune 500 companies.
Michael is particularly skilled in change management, performance management, and continuous improvement with an in-depth understanding of lean culture. He has delivered exceptional performance in organisations under his control.
Michael began his career with TC Automation in Wicklow. He held positions in technical sales/ service and shop-floor supervision, and he finished as Director/ Part Owner in charge of the technical aspects of the business.
Michael went on to join BD Medical, progressing through roles such as Production Engineering; Moulding Manager; Production Manager; Plant Manager of a large US facility for five years; and General Manager of BD Ireland.
As General Manager in Ireland, he held responsibilities including strategic, financial and operational activities, with an €80[MM] annual budget and a €100[MM] capital investment programme to realign operations strategy, transitioning the Drogheda facility to become the European centre for prefilled syringes and driving the Dun Laoghaire facility to become a high-performance, lean organisation. His operations experience focused on high volume, highly automated moulding, assembly, and sterilisation manufacturing, including the introduction of Integra Retractable Syringe manufacturing and Pen Needles for diabetes care.
Michael was Chairman of CCAN(Collaborative Centre for Applied Nanotechnology), founder and CEO of MitaMed Ltd.(a spin off of a medical device company from UCC focused on innovative cancer treatment devices), and Chairman of Advant Medical.
More recent projects include a NED role in a UK-based medical device company, lead of a training programme in Lean/6 Sigma, assessor of grant applications into Enterprise Ireland, and facilitator of numerous strategic developments in companies, academia, and associations.
