He has worked within a diverse range of organisational cultures in Ireland, UK, Europe, South Africa, India, New Zealand and the United States. Barry now works with a wide range of progressive companies, developing ambitious growth strategies and facilitating positive change programmes to deliver successful outcomes.

“There is nothing better than driving positive change to deliver and sustain strong business performance”.

Experience

Barry has extensive experience across multiple sectors, at senior management level including Managing Director, with brand leaders. Initially beginning his career in sports wear with Adidas, he then worked for 6 years in Ireland and the UK with Wrangler Jeans and was the company’s Marketing Director for Europe.

In 1995, Barry joined Independent News & Media PLC (INM) as Group Marketing Director where he worked for ten years. In this role, he was directly responsible for INM’s domestic marketing activities and commercial revenue strategies while providing strategic marketing support to INM’s marketing operations globally. Notable achievements during this time included acting as a key member of the acquisition team that acquired a 25% share of India’s largest domestic media company and overseeing the company’s transition and consolidation into the wider INM group.

In 2006, Barry was appointed Managing Director at Johnston Press (Ireland) where he successfully managed the integration of 12 independent business units into a single cohesive business structure that significantly reduced the firm’s cost base and improved its competitiveness. Major achievements in this role included leading and overseeing various efficiency programmes ie. centralisation of IT, financial and administration systems and implementation of new business processes across the organisation. He also transitioned all publications to digital and ecommerce platforms. Barry was subsequently involved in the preparation of the group for a trade sale.
