Michael Loftus

Michael has over 30 years of operational and strategic management experience having worked at the forefront of a number of manufacturing, medical and engineering organisations. The scale of such organisations range from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies, both of which Michael has excelled in through his predominant focus on strategic guidance and operational effectiveness. He is particularly skilled in change management, performance management and continuous improvement, with an in-depth understanding of lean culture.

Experience

Michael has spent a large part of his career working within operational and strategic-management positions across multiple sectors but predominantly within the Engineering arena. Michael began his career with TC Automation in Wicklow where he held positions in technical sales and shop-floor supervision. Having dedicated significant time to such roles, Michael progressed to Director level within TC Automation, where her was placed in charge of all technical business functions. He then went on to join BD Medical, speedily progressing through roles spanning across Production Engineering, Moulding Management, Production Managemet; Plant Management and General Management of BD Ireland. As General Manager, Michael delved into accurately framing all strategic, financial and operational group activities. With an €80 million annual budget and a €100 million capital investment programme to realign operations strategy, Michael successfully transformed the Drogheda facility into the European centre for prefilled syringes. This project in itself fulfilled the sought after outcome of every project undertaken by Michael- driving infrastructures to becoming high-performance, lean organisations.

Michael was Chairman of CCAN(Collaborative Centre for Applied Nanotechnology), founder and CEO of MitaMed Ltd.(a spin off of a medical device company from UCC focused on innovative cancer treatment devices), and Chairman of Advant Medical. More recent projects include a Non-Executive Director role in a UK-based medical device company, lead of a training programme in Lean/6 Sigma, assessor of grant applications into Enterprise Ireland, and facilitator of numerous strategic developments in companies, academia, and associations.
